Gendarmenmarkt Outdoor Market

Last Friday when I heard that there would be an outdoor market at Gendarmenmarkt, I couldn't have been happier. You see, for the longest time I've been lamenting how deserted the streets of Virtual Berlin, London, NY, and other places have been because of the lack of interactivity.  I always felt that if Twinity started placing some flea markets here and there--as well as some other things to encourage interaction-- we'd start seeing more people outdoors.

So naturally when the outdoor Christmas market was announced in the recent newsletter, I was so excited that I had to check it out.

Various lamps and kitchen fixtures for sale at Gendarmenmarkt.

Paintings, also available at the outdoor market

Fridges, ovens and fireplaces at Gendarmenmarkt

Christmas stalls

One last shot of the market, with a few exercise machines on sale.

As you can probably tell already, I really love this idea and hope it spreads to other areas of Berlin, as well as New York, London, Miami, Singapore, and Palmadora. More places like this would go a long way in encouraging people to get out more, which in turn would help make the streets become livelier than they are now.
